The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has called on troops to increase their battle against criminal activities throughout the country urging them to pursue and neutralize all threats as they emerge.

Musa further delivered at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Social Evening and Award Evening for Soldiers, Ratings, and Airmen held in Abuja Sunday.

He blames the nation’s insecurity on the absence of a proactive posture, warning that by 2025, the military’s operations will bring about significant impact on national stability.

“We don’t have one here, our task is to find the bad guys and kill them.” “I’ve asked all commanders to make a big difference for our operations this year,” he said.

National peace commitment prominent in military leadership

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, re-emphasised the role of the military in defending peace and also stability in Nigeria.

‘Trophies’, he also reminded troops, of their oath to serve the nation with loyalty, encouraging them to stand their ground in the fight against terrorism, insurgency and other threats.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla also promised to improve the welfare and operational capabilities of Navy personnel.

Furthermore the announcement by Ogalla of new assets to deploy and to improve surveillance increased troop morale and did much for operational efficiency.

Welfare and operational readiness

In his remarks, AVM Idi Sani, on behalf of the Chief of the Air Force (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar commended troops for their resilience and loyalty. Moreover, of particular interest he noted the success of inter service collaboration in counterinsurgency, disaster response, and other manner missions.

Abubakar said the dynamic nature of our security challenges demands it all. According to him, a motivated, well trained force is the backbone of military success.

As a rebirthed attention placed on proactive operations and troop welfare works towards ensuring Nigeria becomes a more secure place and a united Nigeria, the renewed thrust of the military leadership to peace and stability is as concerning.
