The House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has urged Minster of State for the FCT Mariya Mahmoud to remedy the inadequate state of the Fish Farm Estate in Bwari Abuja.
Reps summon FCT Minister over poor infrastructure and neglect
The Committee Chairman Fred Agbedi evaluated the farm during his Monday visit and complained about its deteriorating state that goes against President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda. Bayelsa State’s PDP representative Fred Agbedi observed that Fish Farm Estate lacked every essential basic facility such as power supply and water systems and drainage networks and road access. The farm has turned into an unusable state due to the missing essential services.
The noble vision for this initiative has officially been discontinued. The facilities lack fundamental amenities which include electricity as well as water supply and drainage service and route access. According to Agbedi inadequate wastewater management facilities exist together with severe security risks at the fish farms. Operations at the estate face severe personnel challenges which affect its management anymore, hence the reasons Reps summon FCT Minister.
Minister’s accountability and committee’s promise
A committee now calls Minister of State for FCT before the assembly to present information about the farm status at present. The committee requested the minister to present before them together with departmental representatives for discussing the operational problems within the fish farm complex. The official also showed empathy toward investors who teamed with government bodies before experiencing its abandonment.
The failure of government support to investors who possess fish farming knowledge makes our nation bleed according to Agbedi. The sector will not find support while it endures such suffering. The farm will receive our attention to restore its operations while boosting the economic power of our nation.
Plans for revival and further actions
Agbedi demonstrated to people living in the area and other investors that members of the National Assembly would focus on restoring the farm operations. The committee will work with relevant authorities including the President to find solutions for any problems stopping the farm from operating properly.
The committee demanded the Nigerian Police to create protective measures for the farm so operation restarts could commence. The estate required additional personnel according to Agbedi because inadequate staffing combined with insufficient care for the estate remained major issues.
Additional meetings with residents from the estate are planned by the committee to obtain complete insights about their current problems. The committee continues to pursue a dedication for solving farm-related matters and addressing stakeholder concerns according to Agbedi.
