Wednesday saw President Tinubu inaugurate the new board and executive team of NNPCL. Before the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit at the Banquet Hall, the inauguration happened at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

With Mele Kyari stepping down, an era is coming to an end.

Mele Kyari will leave his role as NNPCL group chief executive officer at the conclusion of the inauguration. Seven weeks ago, the new appointments were announced and on April 2, 2025, every role became official. Moreover those changes mean significant changes to the leadership in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.

Board members represent a wide range of regions across the country

The members of the new NNPCL board come from each of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Adedpapo Segun, Bello Rabiu from the North West, Yusuf Usman from the North East and Babs Omotowa as the North Central member make up E&PCD nominations. Austin Avuru will fill the the non-executive director position from the South-South, David Ige will come from the South West and Henry Obih will represent the South East.

On the board, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of finance, acts on behalf of the ministry and Aminu Ahmed comes from the ministry of petroleum resources.

New NNPCL board is a process of seking new strategies for Nigeria’s energy sector

The government formed a new NNPCL board as it puts energy sector reform high on its agenda and furthermore focuses on reinvigorating the leadership at the Nigeria’s leading energy organization.
