The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has sounded the alarm over escalating insecurity in Northern Nigeria, citing rising banditry, kidnappings, and violent crime as worsening the region’s social and humanitarian crises.
Speaking at the 78th National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna, ACF Chairman Chief Mamman Osuman, SAN, lamented the loss of lives to “evil criminals, psychopaths, gangsters, bandits, marauders and terrorists,” alongside deaths from natural causes and environmental disasters.
“This is an uncommon and trouble-ridden time when politics, unimaginable vicissitudes, treachery, crimes and environmental disasters are devastating our people,” Osuman said. He called on communities to remain vigilant and unified, warning against ignoring threats under the pretense of safety.
Leaders call for unity over Northern Nigeria insecurity
Osuman paid tribute to prominent Northern figures recently lost, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Justice Mohammed Uwais, Prof. Jubril Aminu, Chief Audu Ogbe, and Alhaji Aminu Dantata, leading a one-minute silence in their honor.
According to Vanguard, the ACF reaffirmed its non-partisan stance while emphasizing the need to safeguard Northern interests within a united Nigeria. Members also discussed plans for the Forum’s 25th anniversary in October, highlighting the importance of resilience and collective action against insecurity.
