Nigeria’s former Kogi West lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring the once-dominant opposition “dead and buried.”

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Melaye alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has infiltrated the PDP to the point of full control, leaving it without independence or direction.

Melaye, who previously contested elections under the PDP, dismissed any chances of the party’s revival. “Apart from our Lord Jesus Christ, no dead can rise again. PDP is dead and buried. The party was sold, and I’m not sure they even got the payment receipt. What you have now is an APC-controlled PDP,” he said, casting doubt on the party’s ability to stand as a true opposition.

APC control over PDP affairs

According to Melaye, APC agents have penetrated PDP operations directly from the presidential villa, undermining its autonomy. He stressed that the PDP no longer acts on its own accord and functions largely as a satellite of the ruling party.

“The party has been controlled from the villa,” he noted. “As far as we are concerned, it is the agents of the APC that control the PDP.”

Melaye turns to ADC for 2027

According to Punch, Melaye revealed he has joined the African Democratic Congress, describing it as a platform positioned for strong presidential challenge.

He vowed that the African Democratic Congress would unseat President Bola Tinubu and remove the APC from power by 2027.

“I am a proud member of ADC, and by God’s grace, it will unseat Tinubu,” he declared.

Highlighting his defection, Melaye urged Nigerians to shift focus from PDP’s decline and redirect concern towards urgent national issues.

He emphasized hunger, malnutrition, misgovernance, and maladministration as pressing concerns requiring public discourse rather than debates about PDP’s collapse.
