Scavenging remains banned across the Federal Capital Territory.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has ordered divisional officers to launch immediate raids on uncompleted buildings and suspected hideouts across Abuja in a new push to strengthen citywide security.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the directive takes effect immediately and is aimed at preventing criminals from using abandoned or ongoing construction sites as safe havens.
Police move to secure construction sites
Adewale’s directive instructs all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify patrols, conduct thorough sweeps, and arrest any unidentified persons found on-site after 6:00 p.m.
“The measure is part of proactive steps to ensure the safety of lives and property across the FCT,” Adeh said. Authorities have directed property developers to register their security guards, artisans, and labourers at nearby police divisions before the end of October 2025.
Scavenging activities remain banned in the FCT
Furthermore the Commissioner warned that scavenging popularly known as “Baban Bola” remains prohibited within the capital city. Authorities urge residents to report any scavengers or suspicious persons loitering in their neighbourhoods.
Adewale also emphasised that security is a shared responsibility, urging estate associations and community leaders to collaborate with the police and avoid sheltering unknown persons in residential areas.
Police urge public vigilance and cooperation
The FCT Command encouraged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious activity through its emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
Adewale further said regular profiling of domestic staff and guards would help reduce risks of insider-related crimes. “Our focus is prevention, not reaction,” he added.
