The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 385 kilogrammes of “Loud,” a high-quality synthetic cannabis, during a midnight raid on a nightclub in Lekki, Lagos State. Officials added that the operation happened after weeks of gathering information about people who were thought to be drug dealers who sold drugs in nightclubs.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesperson, stated on Sunday that the Lagos Command agents carried out the raid on the orders of the agency’s head, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd.). He added that the raid was part of a bigger plan to limit the spread of designer medications in public spaces.

“This seizure shows that we are keeping a closer eye on things and are determined to break up the network of people who are glamorising drug use through music events and club parties,” Babafemi stated.

NDLEA seizes 385kg of Loud and arrests people they think are involved in drug trafficking

During the raid, officials said they recovered 385 kg of Loud, a form of cannabis that generally comes from Canada and the U.S., as well as other things associated to drug trafficking. Five people, including the floor manager of the nightclub, have been arrested and are working with the authorities to find out what happened.

Marwa commended the Lagos Command for the successful operation and added that the agency was still determined to break up drug cartels that are taking advantage of young people. “No amount of glitz or nightlife hype will stop traffickers from getting what they deserve.” “The NDLEA will keep protecting communities from the effects of drugs,” he stated.

He further claimed that the Loud that was taken is worth hundreds of millions of naira on the street, which illustrates how big the illegal trade is.

NDLEA’s warning to those who want to hold events

The NDLEA has urged club owners, event planners, and promoters not to let people take drugs or have “drug parties” on their property. The organisation is also working with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the persons in charge of entertainment to teach kids about the dangers of synthetic cannabis.

Officials say that the Drug-Free Lagos program will reach music venues, bars, and private estates in the coming several months. Babafemi added, “It’s not just the NDLEA’s job to fight drug abuse; it’s everyone’s job.”
