JAMB Extends 2025 University Admissions Deadline to Nov. 17

KEY POINTS

  • The board has extended the 2025 admission deadline for public colleges to November 17.
  • The extension comes after vice-chancellors asked for it and the NUC gave out new accreditations.
  • The board says that the new deadline is definite and must be met.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025.

Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the decision followed “emergent and compelling circumstances” that delayed the completion of admissions in some institutions.

Universities face delays amid legal, accreditation hurdles

Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, who chaired the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, approved October 31 as the original closing date.

JAMB said the adjustment became necessary after the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) appealed for an extension due to disruptions from a court injunction that halted the 2025/2026 process—only lifted on October 28.

The board also cited the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as another factor that warranted additional time for scheduling admissions into the newly approved courses.

JAMB extends 2025 admissions deadline for fairness

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board therefore extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025,” the statement said.

JAMB commended universities that had already met the earlier date but stressed that the new timeline would be the final one.

Dr. Benjamin also reaffirmed the board’s commitment to a transparent and credible admissions process that aligns with national education goals and upholds institutional autonomy.
