The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a petition lodged by Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, against Grammy nominee David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. Tiwa Savage alleges bullying and threats to her life by the fellow musician.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, confirmed the receipt of the petition and disclosed that an investigation has been launched into the allegations.
Hundeyin stated, “I can confirm to you that we have received the petition and investigation has commenced.”
In her widely circulated petition, Tiwa Savage accused Davido of using disrespectful language in response to a post that included herself and Sophia Momodu, the singer’s baby mama, on Instagram.
Tiwa Savage expressed her disappointment at Davido’s threats and reminded him of her support for his family, particularly during the difficult period following the loss of his son, Ifeanyi.
The petition reads in part, “On the 23rd of December, I made a post which included myself and Sophia Momodu’s Instagram Story—a feature on Instagram that allows you to put up a post for twenty-four hours. Mr. David Adeleke sent messages to my manager, who is also part of his management team, stating that I shouldn’t worry and should never say a word to him. He accused me of taunting him and used disrespectful, malicious, and derogatory words towards me.”
Tiwa Savage further alleged that mutual connections reached out to inquire about her actions that may have upset Davido and questioned her relationship with Sophia.
She also claimed that Davido warned her to “be careful in Lagos because he was going to f**k me up,” which she perceived as online and offline harassment.
The public feud between Tiwa Savage and Davido became noticeable when both musicians unfollowed each other on Instagram, prompting speculations and discussions on social media.
Tee Billz, a music executive, had previously accused Davido of disrespecting his family, particularly his ex-wife, Tiwa Savage, and called for accountability.
The investigation into these allegations adds a new dimension to the ongoing dispute between two of Nigeria’s leading artists, who were known to have had a friendly relationship and whose children attended the same school.
Efforts to reach Asa Asika, Davido’s manager, for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
