Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern and sorrow over the tragic explosion that rocked Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday night. The incident has reportedly claimed the lives of two individuals and left approximately 80 others injured. Moreover, it has caused extensive damage to numerous buildings, vehicles, and properties, casting a shadow of sorrow over the affected community.
In response to this devastating incident, President Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, issued a statement urging swift action and accountability. The President voiced his unease over reports suggesting that illegal mining activities may have been the cause of the blast.
President Tinubu emphasised, “It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those responsible for this inexcusable and reckless behaviour, which created the conditions for this tragic incident, must be identified and held accountable.”
Moreover, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo State, acknowledging the profound grief that the incident has brought upon the community. He emphasised the urgent need for a prompt and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic explosion.
Furthermore, the President demonstrated his commitment to providing immediate assistance and support to the victims and those affected by the explosion. To this end, he directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to collaborate closely with the Oyo State Government. This collaboration aims to ensure that comprehensive and immediate relief is provided to the victims, addressing their urgent needs and alleviating their suffering during this challenging time.
As investigations into the explosion continue, the search for those responsible remains ongoing. It is hoped that the findings of the investigation will shed light on the causes of the explosion and lead to measures that prevent such incidents in the future.
