High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, has affirmed his intention to become the next Olubadan, expressing gratitude for God’s blessings.
Ladoja Confirms Intent to Ascend to Olubadan Throne
High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, has publicly declared his intention to become the next Olubadan. Speaking on Fresh FM’s ‘Agbami Oselu’ radio program, Ladoja expressed his readiness to accept the beaded crown, a significant step in his path to the throne.
Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State and the most senior High Chief is next in line to become Olubadan. He revealed that numerous Ibadan indigenes and non-indigenes had urged him to accept the beaded crown to ensure a smooth transition when the time came.
In his address, Ladoja said, “By the grace of God, I will become Olubadan. God has been merciful to me. My blood pressure has been stable. Anyone God destined to become Olubadan will become Olubadan, no matter the obstacles.”
He continued, “I’m ready to accept Ibadan’s ceremonial beaded crown if it’s the wish of God and the good people of Ibadanland. Only God knows who becomes Olubadan. I know by the special grace of God, I will become Olubadan.”
Changes in Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration
The revised Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration has brought significant changes to the traditional succession process. The Oyo State government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, amended Section 4 of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration. The amendment now stipulates that the next Olubadan should be “the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in that Line” instead of “the most Senior (High) Chief in that Line.”
This change aims to streamline the succession process and address previous ambiguities. Ladoja’s acceptance of the beaded crown is seen as aligning with this revised declaration, which could pave the way for his eventual ascension to the Olubadan throne.
Community Support and Future Prospects
Ladoja emphasized his commitment to fulfilling the wishes of the people of Ibadan. “I will do what the people of Ibadan want. God is determining everything. We have had many people who became Balogun but did not become Olubadan. We have had many people who became Otun Olubadan but did not become Olubadan. Omiyale and Kuye died ten days apart,” he noted.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained confident in his destiny. “It is a tough decision, but the voice of the people is the voice of God. That is what the people want,” Ladoja said.
His declaration has been welcomed by many as a crucial step towards de-escalating tensions related to the publication of the new gazette. By accepting the beaded crown, Ladoja not only honors the revised declaration but also shows his readiness to lead and serve the people of Ibadanland.
