INEC announces readiness for Edo Governorship polls, as INEC has taken slated preparations and deployment of the Edo Governorship election on Saturday, over 5,000 BVAS, and at least 18,000 ad-hoc staff across the 4,519 polling units in the Edo state.
Ballot papers and result sheets to be used in the forth coming election, were imported into the state on Wednesday in a very serious security measures, which shows that INEC is prepared to conduct a hitch free election.
Three leading candidates namely Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party are expected to feature in the keenly contested poll.
All the seventeen intending participating political parties are likely to end their campaigns by 21st September.
More security personnel deployed for Edo election
In order to avert any escalation of violence during the election, the Nigeria Police Force said it will deploy more than 35,000 personnel to Edo state with extra 8,000 other security personnel.
According to The Punch, Other security equipment that the police team accompanied by the DIG Frank Mba will employ include drone, helicopters and others.
Furthermore, as polls draw nearer, the PDP expressed worry and concern about the prospects of electoral fraud urging INEC and the police to vote appropriately.
Apart from receiving the support of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, the LP candidate joined the race with the endorsement of the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, who called on Edo people the vote the LP for a purposeful government.
