The Nigerian vice president, Kashim Shettima, arrived New York to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly meeting. This is in compliance with the directive from President Bola Tinubu who ordered ministers and diplomats that make up Shettima’s entourage. Also, Shettima will speak Nigeria’s national statement during the assembly and engage in other meetings at the high level.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Stanley Nkwocha, affirmed that Shettima arrived in New York on Monday through the John F. Kennedy International Airport where he was welcomed among other dignitaries including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
International gathering relates to sustainable development goals
The 79th session of the UNGA is particularly strategic as leaders attempt to solve some of the major issues that face the globe such as climate change; poverty eradication; also conflict.
UNGCLA is a context that became an urgent call in an effort to mobilize international cooperation towards the implementation of the SDG.
The summit will produce a “Pact for the Future,” an agreed action plan, the objective of which is to enhance global cooperation,and address contemporary challenges in the best interest of now and future generations.
According to The Punch, Shettima should engage discussions on these global issues that affect the country to promote Nigeria as a player in the multilateralist’s world.
