The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, October 1, as a public holiday to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement. The statement was followed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also expressed joy in celebrating with Nigerians both within the country and abroad. He acknowledged the spirit and achievements of the country. He praised Nigerian men and women as hardworking and patient individuals with positive attitudes. Also, he stated that the sacrifices being made by citizens contribute to Nigeria’s progress and development.
A call for solidarity and introspection
Delivering his Independence Day speech, the minister emphasized the importance of this year’s theme. He encouraged Nigerians to remember the sacrifices made by the country’s heroes. He stressed that national prosperity, as envisioned in the national anthem, requires collective effort.
“It is from such labour that we need to derive our strength,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said. He continued, “We must continue efforts toward building the Nigeria of our dreams.”
Support for further nation-building efforts
According to Vanguard, The minister also urged citizens to remain consistent in their efforts to build the country. He acknowledged that the country faces numerous challenges. However, he encouraged everyone not to lose focus on their shared goals, even in difficult times. He called on Nigerians to fight for a better nation.
On this occasion marking the 64th Independence Anniversary, the government joins in wishing all Nigerians a happy Independence Day. It also called on the people to reflect on past achievements and what lies ahead.
