Several Nigerian ministers are reportedly worried about an impending cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu, multiple indications suggest.
Some ministers whose performance is considered unsatisfactory will be replaced, sources close to the presidency have told Trends.
It comes after Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had hinted at changes designed to buttress the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In the lead up to reshuffle, ministers face the spotlight
According to those evaluations, compiled by Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, some ministers have been put on the spot.
Some ministers tried to lobby Usman in private but sources say she has refused to act as a ballast in her assessments of how they are performing. This has caused worry for people who feel their offices might now be under threat.
Evaluations relating to the renewed hope agenda
The reshuffle of President Tinubu’s cabinet is believed to be part of efforts to guarantee that the president’s administration’s goals will be achieved.
But with the Renewed Hope Agenda at the center, fresh appointments are also expected to bring in technocrats and skilled hands who can actually drive government policies. Some expect Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting to be a farewell for some of the ministers.
According to Vanguard, Tinubu’s spokesman, Kazeem Afegbua, said the announcement would be made before the week ends following Tinubu’s meetings with top officials including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
