In a significant move against terrorism in Nigeria, an aircraft from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as part of Operation Hadin Kai, successfully neutralized eight terrorists and decimated a gun truck in Baranga village, located in the Marte Local Government Area of Borno, on Wednesday.
The NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, provided the details of this strategic operation through an official statement in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
According to a report by Daily Post, Gabkwet underscored the operation’s importance, citing it as a testament to the relentless drive against lingering extremist factions in Nigeria’s northeastern region.
The precise airstrike materialized during an armed reconnaissance mission in the area.
It began when the troops, from an aerial vantage point, identified two armed militants speeding on a motorcycle. Sensing the aircraft’s presence, these terrorists sought refuge amidst dense vegetation.
However, in an unforeseen turn of events, a gun truck loaded with eight militants suddenly emerged, hastily trying to escape the hovering threat.
Seizing the moment, the NAF aircraft swiftly engaged, destroying the vehicle and eliminating the terrorists aboard.
Gabkwet elaborated on the tactics employed by these extremist remnants in the Northeast, explaining that they consistently exploit dense forests and heavy vegetation as hideouts, attempting to dodge detection by the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security entities.
He emphasized, “This successful operation exemplifies the unyielding dedication of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Our commitment remains unwavering – to curtail the mobility and actions of terrorists, ensuring they can’t freely threaten or harm our peace-loving citizens.”
The incident in Baranga village is a crucial reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by terrorism in the region but also showcases the proactiveness and effectiveness of the Nigerian security forces in countering such threats.
With operations like Hadin Kai, the message from the Nigerian military is clear – they remain vigilant and steadfast in their pursuit to ensure safety and restore peace across the nation.
