APC Backs Ganduje Against NNPP’s Accusations

Unity and Statesmanship at the Forefront of Nigerian Politics

by Oluwatosin Racheal Alabi

In a recent development within Nigeria’s political landscape, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a firm stand against the allegations made by Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Galadima had accused Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of APC, of harboring negative sentiments towards the people of Kano State. This claim has been staunchly refuted by the APC, emphasizing Ganduje’s commitment to the state and its citizens.

Senior APC Aide Responds to Galadima’s Allegations

Chief Oliver Okpala, the Senior Special Assistant to the APC national chairman on Public Enlightenment, dismissed Galadima’s statements made on a television program as misleading. Okpala labeled these accusations as “a wrong narrative and interpretation” of Ganduje’s stance on Kano politics. He criticized Galadima for attempting to create discord between Ganduje and the people of Kano, as well as within the leadership of the NNPP.

Ganduje’s Message to His Supporters

Okpala clarified Ganduje’s message, explaining that the APC chairman, speaking in Hausa, had urged his supporters in Kano to remain loyal, law-abiding, and supportive of their party regardless of the Supreme Court judgement’s outcome. Ganduje emphasized his role in leading the APC with peace, love, decorum, and dignity. Okpala expressed bewilderment at Galadima’s interpretation of Ganduje’s words, suggesting it was either a misinterpretation or deliberate mischief.

The Call for Statesmanship and Unity

Okpala further advised Galadima to adopt a more statesmanlike demeanor, focusing on preaching peace, love, and unity in Nigeria’s political sphere. He urged Galadima to emulate elder statesmen like Ganduje, who, according to Okpala, speaks with wisdom and shows a deep love for the country. He emphasized the need for elder statesmen to lead by example, fostering a clean political space characterized by peace and unity.

The People’s Support for Ganduje

Reinforcing Ganduje’s standing in Kano State, Okpala stated that the people of Kano hold Ganduje in high regard as a political leader. He dismissed any attempts of blackmail against Ganduje as ineffectual, citing the strong bond and respect he has garnered among the citizens of Kano.

The Need for Political Rectitude Among Elder Statesmen

Okpala concluded by calling on Nigeria’s elder statesmen to embrace a path of political rectitude. He stressed the importance of bequeathing to the younger generation a political landscape that is garnished with peace, love, and unity. This approach, he believes, is vital for the growth and stability of Nigeria’s political environment.

Conclusion: A Moment of Reflection for Nigeria’s Political Sphere

The dispute between Galadima and the APC over Ganduje’s comments has opened up a broader conversation about the tone and direction of Nigerian politics. As the nation continues to navigate complex political waters, the need for responsible and unifying leadership becomes ever more apparent. The APC’s defense of Ganduje not only reflects the party’s support for its chairman but also underscores the importance of maintaining a respectful and constructive political discourse in Nigeria.
