The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) delivered significant blows to drug syndicates operating in Nigeria, particularly in Abuja, Lagos, and Kano. These actions highlight the agency’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and its associated criminal activities across the nation.

In the capital city, Abuja, NDLEA operatives dismantled a cocaine network, arresting three key members. Nnajiofor Kenechukwu, 41, and Okoro Christian, 35, were apprehended at a local hotel, found in possession of 718 grams of cocaine. A subsequent raid at the residence of one of the suspects led to the discovery of cannabis and methamphetamine, alongside cash and property documents, pointing to the extensive nature of their operations.

The crackdown continued in Lagos, where a meticulously executed operation resulted in the seizure of over 10 tonnes of Ghanaian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, alongside the arrest of individuals connected to the drug trade. The operation also led to the confiscation of vehicles used by the cartel, underscoring the agency’s commitment to dismantling the logistics of drug trafficking networks.

Further raids in Lagos yielded more arrests and the seizure of a variety of drugs, including tramadol, codeine, and pentazocine injections, showcasing the diversity of narcotics trafficked by these syndicates. The NDLEA’s reach extended to Edo and Ondo states, where operations led to the seizure of nearly 45 tonnes of illicit drugs. In a notable action, thousands of kilograms of cannabis were destroyed in a warehouse and across several hectares of farmland used for cultivation, demonstrating the agency’s proactive stance against drug cultivation and storage.

These operations are part of the NDLEA’s broader strategy to combat drug trafficking and misuse within Nigeria. By targeting the supply chain—from cultivation and production to distribution and sales—the agency aims to significantly reduce the availability of illicit drugs on the streets and curb the negative impact of drug abuse on society.

The success of these raids is a testament to the dedication and diligence of NDLEA operatives and emphasizes the importance of inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking. As the NDLEA continues its operations, it sends a clear message that the agency is unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding the health and security of Nigerians against the scourge of illegal narcotics.
