Esteemed academic and leader Ayo Banjo passed away this week at the age of 90. Tributes poured in from Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo State, Nigeria, where Banjo played a pivotal role in the university’s establishment and early development.

Banjo served as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor of ACU, a position that placed him at the forefront of the university’s growth. Tributes emphasized Banjo’s role in fostering a culture of innovation and integrity at ACU. Banjo’s dedication to education extended beyond his role at ACU. Before becoming Pro-Chancellor, he served as chairman of the university’s implementation committee. He also held the position of chairman of the University Board of Trustees, succeeding Emeritus Prof Oladipo Akinkugbe.
