Nigerians are raising eyebrows and asking tough questions after spotting Seyi Tinubu, President Bola Tinubu’s son, at the swearing-in ceremony of the new acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The event, held at the State House in Abuja, was meant to be a formal gathering for high-ranking government officials, but Seyi Tinubu’s presence has sparked a heated debate.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun was sworn in as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria, following the retirement of her predecessor, Olukayode Ariwoola. While this was a significant moment for Nigeria’s judiciary, many Nigerians were more focused on why the President’s son was there.

Social media exploded with questions and concerns. One Twitter user under the handle #BetaCountri asked, “What is Seyi Tinubu’s official role that allows him to be front and center at such an important government event?” This sentiment was echoed by another user, #Ayemojubar, who tweeted, “Why is Seyi Tinubu at the swearing-in of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria? What does he have to do with this?”

Many believe Seyi’s attendance hints at a larger political ambition. Some online commenters speculated that he might be preparing to follow in his father’s footsteps. “He’s learning the ropes so that he can step in when his father steps down,” suggested a Twitter user named IbukunOluwa, hinting at a potential future role for Seyi in politics.

Others defended his presence, arguing that it’s not unusual for the family of a sitting president to attend official events. A user named Maysbabs commented, “If you’re a decision-maker, you need to be where decisions are made. Seyi is learning from the best—his father.” Similarly, #ToppyAFC joked, “He’s doing an internship on how to be a future president. If my dad were president, I’d be there too!”

Not everyone is convinced that Seyi’s presence is justified. Some feel it’s part of a worrying trend of blurring the lines between family and state affairs. “If your father was the president, sure, you might get a seat at the table, but should you?” questioned a Facebook user named The Philosopher. Others argue that Seyi is simply gaining experience. An Instagram user, #Adelion, said, “To succeed, you need to learn how things are done. Seyi being there is just him learning. Nothing more, nothing less.”

The debate over Seyi Tinubu’s presence at the swearing-in ceremony has highlighted broader concerns about political dynasties and transparency in Nigeria. While some see it as harmless, others view it as a sign of deeper issues within the political landscape. As the conversation continues online, one thing is clear: Nigerians are watching closely and are eager for accountability from their leaders.
