KEY POINTS
- Pastor Muoka response to Social Media Activist VeryDarkMan’s criticism of Chosen church .
- Muoka emphasises that “Chosen members will not learn the hard way”— a caution for the activist.
- Pastor says he harbors no ill feelings but calls out the critics to stop provoking the anointed ones.
It began when the activist with the social media influencer VeryDarkMan posted unsavoury things about the church and its General Overseer, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, after which he received a forceful reply. Recently, several videos of strange reports that members of a church in California posted online got viral that elicited negative reactions from the social media users, including VeryDarkMan.
Some of the stories included were that a woman of about sixty years over powered four armed robbers, while a man narrated how he survived a kidnap and several attacks all unharmed. These clips made many people discuss on social media, and VeryDarkMan, an activist, not only criticised and made negative comments to ‘Chosen members shall learn in the hard way.’
Pastor Muoka’s response
In particular, regarding these comments, Pastor Muoka recorded a video message to his congregation. It says, ‘Once a man came and asked, ‘Pastor do you see this man that is speaking ill of us?’ He said Chosen people will learn something the hard way.’ And he said the man’s name was VeryDarkMan. I told her ‘No, Chosen will not learn the hard way; he will be the one to learn the hard way’,’ Muoka said.
Muoka, however, clarified that his remarks were not malicious towards the activist, and explained that all that he said was in paraphrasing the words of the critic. Muoka continued: “I must not utter any bad things against anybody; however, let me tell you that VeryDarkMan is going to learn something today the hard way.”
A warning to critics
Pastor Muoka concluded with a warning for those who criticize God’s work: “If God’s anointed gets angry with you, you are finished.”
He reiterated this stating that he did not want VeryDarkMan to be harmed in any way, but stated that anyone who takes on the church could meet their maker. The free speech comments by the pastor are remarkably incendiary about reactions and perceived religious sanctity of criticism through the internet against religious pioneers.
According to Vanguard, The comments have sparked mixed feelings over the internet as some agree with Muoka’s warning while others discouraged the use of spiritual authority to silence the critics. The exchange show that the tension between the religious leaders and the social media activists who defy them continues.
