The chairmen congratulated Abure on his recent Federal High Court victory in Abuja. The court validated the party’s March 2024 national convention held in Nnewi. It also reaffirmed Abure’s position as Labour Party chairman.
Labour Party National Vice Chairman for the North Central Zone, Ibrahim Idoko, stated this in a press release issued on Wednesday.
Punch reported that Idoko said the court’s decision reflects the strength of Nigeria’s legal system and the Labour Party’s commitment to democratic principles. Idoko, who also serves as the party’s chairman in Benue State, praised the ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize the Abure-led leadership.
Federal court ruling confirms Abure’s leadership
“In light of the court’s ruling, the Forum of Chairmen of the North Central, comprising Abuja, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau, extends its congratulations to Julius Abure, our National Chairman, and the National Working Committee (NWC). The decision demonstrates that the Nnewi elective convention complied with all party and INEC’s constitutional criteria,” the statement read.
The October 8, 2024, ruling affirms Abure’s leadership, Idoko added, thanking the judiciary for upholding the rule of law. He said the Labour Party remains united and committed to promoting the welfare of Nigerians.
“We, in the North Central Labour Party, have always believed that the Abure-led committee operates within the law. We are pleased with the judgment, as we know our chairman has great plans for the party,” Idoko said.
He also urged all aggrieved party members to resolve their differences to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
“We call on all aggrieved and potential members to put aside their differences and work with the Abure-led committee to build our party as we prepare for the 2027 general elections,” Idoko said.
