KEY POINTS
- EKEDC will suspend payment services from October 18 to 21 for a system upgrade.
- Electricity supply will not be affected during the service downtime.
- Customers are urged to make payments before the disruption to avoid inconvenience.
Due to a major system upgrade, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced that its payment services would be temporarily discontinued from October 18 to October 21, 2024.
With this upgrade, the business will switch to a new “All-in-One System” that will improve customer service and operational procedures.
Customers won’t be able to use physical locations or internet platforms to replenish their prepaid meters or make payments during this time. EKEDC stressed, however, that the system update will not have an impact on the delivery of electricity.
Preparations and customer guidance
According to Punch, EKEDC has advised its customers to recharge their prepaid meters and pay any outstanding bills prior to the planned outage in preparation of the service interruption.
Babatunde Lasaki, the company’s general manager of corporate communications, informed the public that EKEDC is dedicated to enhancing its offerings with the overhaul.
“We will be able to handle consumer data more effectively, expedite invoicing procedures, and respond to service concerns more quickly thanks to the new technology. Additionally, we are implementing self-service alternatives so that clients can view their data and transaction history without contacting us directly,” Lasaki stated.
He reassured clients that the business is taking steps to guarantee a seamless transition, even though he acknowledged the possible inconvenience the outage may create.
Industry-wide upgrades
The system migration at EKEDC comes after comparable improvements made to the banking industry in Nigeria. To improve service delivery, a number of leading banks, including Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, and Access Bank, have recently implemented major system changes.
In order to uphold good service standards, the electricity company wants to remain in step with these developments.
The customer support staff at EKEDC will continue to be accessible to help during the migration time. Through its official website and social media accounts, the business has also encouraged clients to stay informed.
