Enugu State Government has categorically rejected an illegal sit at home order by faceless individuals on social media.
According to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the state had moved beyond the era when criminals could dictate where citizens could go and how they can move.
The Enugu government has denied receiving an order for a sit-at-home. Citizens were also urged by the government to continue their lawful activities as security measures have been made more formidable across the state to protect lives and property.
Anybody that fails to show up in either business or workers undermining the state’s efforts to maintain order will have consequence,” Onyia said. “So there will be no sit-at-home in any part of the state.”
Police’s commitment to maintain public order
Enugu Police Commissioner Kanayo Uzuegbu backed the government’s stance, describing the sit at home call as baseless and aimed at creating fear. The police, with other security forces, are adequately resourced to deal with any threat, he assured residents.
Furthermore the Commissioner warned that parents needed to be sure that their children are not being used to commit crimes, and that offenders would face very serious legal punishments.
The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activities at the nearest police station or call the Enugu State Command numbers if they are of emergency nature.
