The Federal Government will strengthen Nigeria’s border security and illegal entry routes through an irregular migration command and control center.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, announced that a center located on a land border will rigorously screen individuals entering the country during the induction of 123 new officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Abuja.

New migration command center to complement border security

Tunji Ojo also stressed that the command center will, alongside airports, enhance security at all land and marine borders, again emphasizing security across the board.

He stated that every individual entering through our land borders would go through a thorough screening process, adding that there would be pre-profiling in that regard, stressing the security value of Nigeria’s borders.

Military service and enhanced training

Kemi Nandap, comptroller general of NIS, praised the newest officers and noted the advanced, data focused training they will go through.

Furthermore Nandap added that officers were chosen from a competitive pool that attests to the NIS’s dedication to securing Nigeria’s borders with a highly trained workforce.

According to The Punch, she assured that these officers will lead this flagship project to usher in a new period in national security for the NIS.
