A man named Adegoke has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command in relation to the suspected murders of two people on his property in Ore, the Odigbo Local Government Area headquarters.Â
Farm intrusions escalate into deadly confrontation in Ore
The event, which happened last week, has raised worries about growing hostilities in the area between suspected thieves and local farmers.
Adegoke allegedly accused the dead of stealing from his land on multiple occasions, along with others of a nearby community.
His motorbike, which had been parked on the farm, and expensive crops, such as cocoa, kola nuts, and plantains, were among the stolen goods.
According to punch, Adegoke allegedly confronted a gang of intruders he found on his home on the day of the incident. He allegedly attacked the others during the ensuing violent altercation, which left two people dead and several injured.
Police confirm arrest and launch detailed investigation
According to a local source, thieves had been aiming for Adegoke’s land for some time. In addition to stealing his crops, they also stole his motorbike. He challenged them when he discovered them on his land once more.
Unfortunately, two people lost their life and others were injured as it turned violent.
The Ondo State Police Command spokeswoman, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed Adegoke’s detention and said an investigation is in progress.
“We are investigating the incident’s circumstances to make sure justice is done,” Odunlami stated.
Many have called for better security measures to stop such incidents, as the case has highlighted the difficulties farmers face in defending their livelihoods.Â
