KEY POINTS

  • By issuing the peace-demand message the Rivers Government asked the RSHA to review their present political stance toward impeachment.
  • Through a gross misconduct notice the RSHA started the process that could lead to the impeachment of Gov. Fubara along with his deputy.
  • Commissioner Joe Johnson strongly criticized the Assembly because it refused to let the governor re-present his budget for the next fiscal year.

The Rivers Government requests the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) to reconsider its position so state inhabitants maintain peace and welfare.

During his Port Harcourt news conference on Monday Mr. Joe Johnson presented this plea as Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications.

The legislators should switch directions because this move will help the state and residents avoid staggering dilemmas and hardships.

Impeachment proceedings and tension

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) previously reported that the RSHA issued this gross misconduct notice against future Gov. Siminalayi Fubara and Ngozi Odu as part of their impeachment process.

The Supreme Court mandated the governor to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill yet the Assembly refused to comply with this order.

The politicians received criticism from Johnson because they insisted Fubara failed to properly notify them about budget presentation.

The governor delivered evidence of his readiness to submit the 2025 budget to the Assembly and total implementation of Supreme Court decisions according to Judge Johnson. The process exists exclusively because Fubara wants to attain peace.

He stated that it was a problem for the lawmakers to misrepresent his stance on following the Supreme Court decision.

Rivers Govt urges lawmakers to avert crises

According to Johnson the Assembly members should seize this moment to safeguard the state from approaching problems.

The state faces avoidable catastrophic outcomes because this unique chance to prevent a catastrophic situation will fail according to his warning.

Uncontrollable economic social and political changes will push the state into an abyss of unthinkably severe crises according to his assessment.

Financial struggles

The commissioner warned about how the Supreme Court mandate requiring the Central Bank of Nigeria to hold state revenue allocations creates severe obstacles for governmental operations.

State employees and pensioners together with other workers cannot expect to receive their salaries and retirement benefits or employment incentives because of this situation.

Rivers Govt urges lawmakers as Johnson made it clear that other financial duties of the government would remain delayed until the court order was completely enforced.

The legislative branch’s actions in Rivers State caused such extensive civil damage that operations through government institutions will entirely stop. The state operations will become paralyzed due to withheld revenue payments to the state government he stated.
