KEY POINTS
- The Nigerian Senator Wabara has voiced his disapproval of President Tinubu and VP Shettima going abroad at the same time.
- In his view national crises require leadership presence in the country because empty-headed governance serves as a waste of national resources.
- Wabara demands the National Assembly to exercise responsibility toward the executive branch.
Senator Adolphus Wabara expressed his strongest disapproval of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s mutual foreign trips by describing it as the worst instance of executive misbehavior.
The president conducted a two-week official visit to France shortly before the vice president traveled to Dakar Senegal on April 4 to join the 65th Independence Day festivities on behalf of the president.
The acting Governor Wabara expressed his frustration by saying that Nigeria operated without executive leadership because the president and vice president left simultaneously.
Wabara’s critique of the simultaneous trips
Senator Wabara slams Tinubu and Shettima by accusing them of failing to fulfill their responsibilities adequately while completely disregarding Nigerian citizens in the process. According to him presidents possess the authority to travel yet they must execute formal power transfer to their vice who acts as president if needed.
According to Wabara the Vice President lacks authorization to leave the national borders during Presidential absences from the country. The representative at the Senegal event should have been the foreign affairs minister rather than the vice president because his absence led to increased difficulties within the government.
A call for prioritizing national interest
As leader of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Senate president this politician voiced astonishment about the president alongside the vice president departing Nigeria at the same time. National interests received no consideration and both Nigeria and its leadership positions were demoted by the departure.
The presidency needs to make essential national issues its priority beyond personal matters according to Wabara during national emergencies. Nigeria faces a national crisis because tensions increase in Edo and violence spreads in Plateau and the north experiences growing insecurity. A person who departs from Nigeria during this time period reveals insufficient governmental experience and extreme disregard toward both the nation and its populace.
Wabara slams Tinubu and Shettima as he demanded that the National Assembly exercise its constitutional duty to establish checks and balances for avoiding additional executive national authority expansion. He described executive rascality as a serious concern which he advised President Tinubu should address through proper procedure to prevent the mockery of Nigeria’s democratic system worldwide.
