The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ibas, has praised the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s local government elections, describing the exercise as a decisive step toward restoring full democratic governance at the grassroots.

Calm voting process

Ibas, who monitored the elections across several local government areas, said he was impressed by the comportment of both voters and election officials, noting that their orderly conduct created a calm and secure atmosphere at polling units.

Voter turnout praised

Furthermore speaking to reporters in Port Harcourt, he pointed to the voter turnout and serenity at polling stations as proof of Rivers residents’ eagerness to reclaim grassroots participation.

“I am very happy with what I have witnessed today. The process has been notably peaceful, from the significant turnout to the orderly conduct of both voters and election officials. I am confident that at the end of the day, we will have a credible set of results that we will all be proud of as a state,” Ibas said.

Statewide reports confirm order

He further added that situation reports from across the 23 LGAs aligned with his observations, with no major negative incidents recorded.

“Generally, the situation has been calm and also seamless across the state. We have not received any major negative reports, which is a testament to the collective desire for peace and normalcy,” he also said.
