- The enforcement continues nationwide.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has dismissed reports claiming that the federal government directed it to halt enforcement actions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAFDAC said it had not received any formal instruction from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or any other authority to suspend regulatory measures tied to sachet alcohol enforcement.
The agency further described the online reports as false and misleading, adding that they do not reflect any official communication from the federal government.
NAFDAC sachet alcohol enforcement remains active
Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye said NAFDAC continues to operate within its statutory mandate and in line with established government policies.
“At no time has the Agency received any formal directive ordering the suspension of its regulatory or enforcement activities in respect of sachet alcohol products,” the statement said. NAFDAC has enforced sachet alcohol regulations as part of broader efforts to control the packaging and distribution of alcoholic beverages, particularly smaller-volume products that consumers widely purchase and consume.
The agency also said it remains committed to safeguarding public health and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards across the food and beverage sector.
NAFDAC sachet alcohol enforcement amid misinformation concerns
NAFDAC urged the public, industry participants and media organisations to rely on verified information disseminated through its official channels and authorised government platforms. It warned that the spread of unverified claims could generate unnecessary public anxiety and economic uncertainty, particularly in sectors affected by regulatory oversight.
The agency also added that any decision affecting national regulatory policy would be communicated formally through appropriate government channels. NAFDAC finally issued the statement to clarify its position at a time when it is enforcing sachet alcohol regulations and drawing attention from manufacturers and distributors concerned about compliance timelines and market impact.
