Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has the potential to win Nigeria’s presidency in the 2027 election, according to Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement. According to Tanko, the movement is still hopeful about Obi’s prospects for the future, even though his unsuccessful bid in the 2023 elections was largely prevented by suspected electoral irregularities.

Obi poised for victory in 2027 elections

Tanko stressed the need for Nigerians to back leaders that place a high value on unity and responsibility during a one-day symposium themed “Repositioning the Obidient Movement for Greater Impact,” which was hosted at the All Saints Cathedral Auditorium in Onitsha, Anambra state. The Obidient Movement and Anambra State Support Groups organised the event, which brought together a range of stakeholders to discuss the movement’s future plans and potential influence on Nigerian politics.

“By bringing together important stakeholders to talk about Nigeria’s future, we are committed to fostering good governance and accountability,” Tanko said. This occasion demonstrates the movement’s dedication to promoting equity, justice, and national unity. Obi has a genuine chance to win the presidency in 2027 if we band together and have a clear, shared goal. Our agents will be completely prepared and trained well before the general election in 2027.

Tanko also emphasised the movement’s determination to learn from its mistakes and concentrate on creating a strong organisational framework, which was criticised during the 2023 election cycle. “If we start electing the right leaders, we can create a new Nigeria,” he declared. By ensuring that responsible leadership is given priority, we are dedicated to ending bad governance. Despite criticism that we lacked organisation, Peter Obi was nevertheless a popular choice among Nigerians in the general election of 2023. Despite winning, he was disqualified because of what we think was electoral fraud. We won’t let history happen again this time.

Obidient Movement demands reform for fair elections

Punch stated that Tanko emphasized the rising discontent with the current government in Nigeria, particularly in the country’s northern areas. He said, “The government’s performance has left even the North unhappy.” “We will support and physically and legally pursue election reform. We are ready to organise our citizens, not only in the streets but also in the courts, and go to the National Assembly with our reform ideas.

According to Tanko, the Obidient Movement is an endeavour focused on holding politicians responsible, promoting long-lasting change, and empowering the Nigerian young. He emphasised that the movement’s mission is in line with the pursuit of justice, equity, and good governance.
