Allegations are dismissed as mere political distraction without factual basis.
The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has denied rumours that he is secretly supporting President Bola Tinubu. He says that his political views have always been clear and consistent.
The former governor of Rivers State said this in response to comments made by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who said that some politicians are making secret political deals. Wike said that there is nothing secret about his position, which he has made clear to everyone in the country.
Wike says he doesn’t secretly support Tinubu
Wike said he doesn’t get what Fubara meant by “corner-corner” support, which he said at a recent public event. Wike said, “Everyone in Nigeria knows that I’m Tinubu’s number one fan.”
He went on to say that his support has not wavered, even though some members of the Peoples Democratic Party have criticised him. He stressed that being open and honest is an important part of his political style. He said, “Once I say this is what I will do, I will do it.”
It’s normal to disagree with people about politics
The FCT minister also talked about the tension in Rivers State politics, especially the claims that he got involved in state meetings. Wike said he has acted as a mediator, helping the governor, the state legislature, and community elders talk to each other.
“Some things shouldn’t be shown on national TV.” He said, “We should act like adults,” stressing that disagreements are a normal part of politics.
Wike said again that his style is based on being open and keeping promises. He said that claims of secret support are politically motivated distractions and that he acts based on principle, not hidden deals.
People who watch politics say that Wike’s comments show that he is trying to be seen as a principled and open person in national politics while still having power in Rivers State before the elections.
