The All Progressives Congress Committee on Strategy, APC, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation has commenced work as the ruling party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee held its first meeting on Monday night at the Abuja lodge of its chairman, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni. The body was inaugurated in December by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the party and address internal disagreements.

The meeting focused on setting out broad strategies for the committee’s assignment, which includes resolving lingering disputes, reconciling aggrieved members and mobilising party structures across the country.

Governors, party leaders attend

Several senior party figures attended the meeting, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Others present were Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Senator Adamu Aleiro and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs Ibrahim Masari.

Former APC National Legal Adviser Muiz Banire serves as secretary of the committee. Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and Umar Namadi of Jigawa, who are also members, were absent from the meeting.

No official communiqué was issued after the session. However, Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, confirmed that the meeting took place.

At the committee’s inauguration in December, Buni assured party leaders that the panel would carry out its mandate with diligence and fairness, stressing the need to preserve the stability of the APC ahead of future elections.

He said the committee would rely on strategic engagement and wide consultations to produce lasting solutions that give both old and new members a sense of inclusion, particularly those who feel sidelined within the party.
