Bauchi APC Denies Alliance With Governor Bala, Asks Him to Join Party

KEY POINTS

  • The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports of a political alliance with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed ahead of the 2027 elections.

  • The party questioned the reports, citing the governor’s continued association with candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

  • The APC has invited Mohammed to formally join its ranks, arguing that doing so would strengthen cooperation between Bauchi State and the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

The All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State has rejected reports suggesting that it has reached a political agreement with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the party said it was unaware of any agreement or alliance with the governor outside the APC platform.

The statement was signed by the Bauchi APC publicity secretary, Shehu Dauda Muhd Udubo, who urged residents to treat claims of an arrangement between the two sides with caution unless credible evidence emerged to support them.

The party said rumours had been circulating among associates of the governor suggesting that a political understanding existed between him and the APC.

However, it insisted that no established agreement of the kind being reported was known to the state chapter.

The clarification comes as political parties and influential figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor’s ties with APM raise questions

The Bauchi APC also questioned the reports of an alliance, pointing to Mohammed’s continued political association with candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement, including its presidential candidate.

According to the party, the governor’s public association with APM figures raises questions about claims that he has reached an understanding with the APC.

It said the situation made it necessary to clarify its position and prevent the public from drawing conclusions based on unverified reports.

The statement did not provide evidence of a formal agreement between the governor and the APC. Instead, the party maintained that any claim of such an arrangement should be supported by credible information.

The APC’s position leaves the question of the governor’s future political alignment unresolved as the 2027 elections approach.

APC invites Bala Mohammed to join Tinubu’s party

Despite denying an existing alliance, the Bauchi APC welcomed reports that Mohammed had expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, economic reforms and interventions in the health sector.

The party urged the governor to turn that reported appreciation into a formal political move by joining the APC.

Udubo described the governor’s continued association with the APM as an unproductive political path and called on him to abandon it in favour of the ruling party.

The APC argued that Mohammed’s formal membership would provide a clearer platform for cooperation between the Bauchi State Government and the Federal Government.

It said such cooperation could help the state coordinate development priorities with federal programmes and improve access to opportunities and resources.

However, the party’s invitation does not mean the governor has agreed to defect, and the statement did not announce any decision by him to join the APC.

Party links alignment to Bauchi’s development

The Bauchi APC said its position was motivated by the need to strengthen collaboration between state and federal authorities and improve the welfare of residents.

It argued that Bauchi was too strategically important to remain outside what it described as Nigeria’s mainstream political structure.

According to the party, closer cooperation with the Federal Government could help attract development projects, improve access to government programmes and support the state’s development priorities.

The APC also reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying Bauchi should benefit from federal policies and initiatives.

The party called on residents to remain focused on governance, development, unity and public welfare rather than unverified political claims.

2027 political calculations continue

The APC’s statement highlights the political positioning taking place ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly efforts to establish relationships between state governments and the Federal Government.

For the Bauchi chapter, the immediate message is that no political alliance with Mohammed has been established, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

At the same time, the party has left the door open for the governor to join its ranks, presenting formal membership as a route towards closer cooperation with the Tinubu administration.

Whether Mohammed will consider the invitation, maintain his current political associations or pursue another arrangement remains unclear.
