The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested two Nigerian men travelling to Paris after they allegedly ingested 200 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.46 kilogrammes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The suspects, Aliocus Godian Odife and Sam Blackborn, were intercepted on October 28, 2026, during the clearance of an Air France flight to Paris. According to the NDLEA, Odife excreted 110 wraps weighing 1.901kg, while Blackborn excreted 90 wraps weighing 1.559kg.
Both men were placed under observation after body scans indicated they had swallowed foreign objects. The agency said the recovered substances tested positive for cocaine.
NDLEA intercepts drugs across several states
The arrests formed part of a wider nationwide crackdown that led to drug seizures and arrests in Lagos, Oyo, Kano, Kaduna, Ondo, Edo and Sokoto states.
In Lagos, operatives seized 976kg of cannabis from two buses intercepted along Kudirat Abiola Way in Ikeja and the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway.
In Oyo State, two men were arrested while loading 554kg of cannabis into a truck at Idere Road, Igboora. The operation targeted a suspected drug dealer identified as “Omo Oba”, who had reportedly escaped arrest during an earlier operation.
In Kano, officers recovered hundreds of thousands of diazepam and Exol-5 tablets in separate raids and arrested suspects found with tramadol.
Woman arrested with AK-47 ammunition
The agency also arrested Aisha Isah at a toll gate along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, where officers reportedly found her with 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
Along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, a 68-year-old man, Ifeanyi Egwolonwu, was arrested with thousands of ampoules of pentazocine and diazepam injections, alongside thousands of tablets of diazepam and Exol-5.
Further operations led to the seizure of cannabis and other controlled substances in Kano, Ondo, Edo and Sokoto.
In Edo State, NDLEA officers supported by soldiers destroyed a 1.646-hectare cannabis plantation at Eko Camp in Ilushi, with an estimated yield of 4,115.53kg. A woman was arrested with 301kg of processed cannabis, while another 176kg was recovered during the operation.
In Ondo State, four suspects were arrested after officers raided cannabis farms in Ijare forest and recovered 180kg of processed cannabis. In Sokoto, a 68-year-old man was arrested with 236.6kg of cannabis.
Marwa warns drug traffickers
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers involved in the operations and warned drug traffickers against using overseas residence as cover for smuggling illicit substances across Nigerian borders.
He urged personnel to sustain enforcement efforts against drug trafficking networks while continuing public awareness campaigns under the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
The campaigns include sensitisation programmes in schools, religious centres, workplaces and communities.
