The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) recently expressed concern after a report suggested the removal of over 17,000 of its members from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). In a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, ASCSN’s national president, Etim Okon, addressed these concerns and reassured the affected members.
Okon responded to the unsettling news of member removals from the IPPIS portal by urging the affected individuals to stay calm. He emphasized that discussions are currently underway to address the issue, as reported by People’s Gazette.
Exploring the reason for these removals, Okon noted an interesting fact. “A large number of core civil service workers didn’t take part in the online verification, which the office of the head of service of the federation conducted,” he said.
He continued by stating, “After examining the records closely, we found that the IPPIS portal even listed names of personal assistants, special assistants, and some ministers.”
Acting swiftly on these concerns, Okon mentioned, “We’ve engaged with the government, especially the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), and established a committee to tackle such issues.”
He then suggested that those with genuine grievances who completed the online verification should send a scanned copy of their documents to the specified email for review.
Another significant issue Okon addressed was the tight one-week deadline set by the HoSF for the verification exercise. Understanding the potential hurdles, he asked the government for an extension, stating, “Given the involved intricacies, we’re urging the government to reconsider the deadline.”
