Abia State Government has announced that all category of workers would begin to be paid the new minimum wage from October, 2024. This was disclosed to the media by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, after the post-SEC meeting press briefing with Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu said on the basis of the new wage scale that the payment will cut across all the employees in the state to enhance the welfare of the workers. This development is adopted, and stakeholders seem to support this development which is in line with the state government’s continued endeavors in the improvement of economic stability of its civil servants.

Proposed reforms in the justice administration

In another area of the key announcement, the state government stated that it will strengthen the justice system in the state by putting up 17 new court halls in the 17 local government areas in Abia State.

In the words of the commissioner, this one is a part of series of initiatives undertaken by government to deliver legal services across the state that is affordable and efficient.

These new structures will add to the growing legal needs of the society; they are expected to increase the quality of judicial services such that there will be less congested cases in the courts-in-laws of Abia state.

Another free medical outreach and athletes rewarded

Moreover, the State Ministry of Health will be expected to hold a free medical camp in Ugwunnagbo during next week. Among them, free medical consultation, maternal and child health care, and diagnostic services will be offered to the residents to show the government’s determination to enhance the healthcare service delivery in rural settings.

According to The Punch, In another development to support the Abia athletes, Governor Otti has made preparations to host para-Olympic athletes who have pride to the state. Some of those to be rewarding are Miss Onyinyechi Mark, the gold medalist in the 61kg category and Miss Esther Nworgu who also won silver in the 41 kg division.
