Unlike many other governors who shy away from making their successor’s decisions, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he will be very much involved in the decision making of his successor when his tenure elapses in 2027.

Makinde was speaking on Thursday at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, receiving a report from the Committee on Review and Update of Public Service Rules or not Several politicians are campaigning hard to replace me but I have the power to appoint my replacement, Makinde said.

“I may not be the one to choose the successor but I will be feeding my opinion,” Makinde said. He also encouraged contenders, who are impatient, to emulate governorship candidates, as plans on successions are usually made near the time of the election.

The Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who is the leader of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDC), also explained that the party made it. In this, he said ‘As the current leader of the party in Oyo State I will be part of the discussions and deliberations that will lead to the conclusion’.

The governor equally spoke of the Committee on Review and Update of Public Service Rules and Other Regulations in the State Civil/Public Service. Makinde also assured of his desire to transform the civil service of the state by ending reliance on manual means for achievements that a digital approach would make easier and faster.

Statistical analysis for civil service reform and legacy

According to The Punch, In his speech, Governor Makinde stressed that there was urgency in review of most outdated Public Service Rules. He thanked the committee for affirming his perception of the improvement of the civil service in the state as a way of promoting working environments of state employees. According to Makinde, many of the PSRs are stale, and thorough and updating to current global best practices is required.

He was confident that a technical committee would be formulated to table the recommendations. The report was presented by Chairman of the Committee, Adebisi Adesola, a former Head of Service, stressing that the enhanced implementation of the recommendations in question would stimulate positive changes in the spectrum of service delivery. These are inconvenient truths that must be taken on to promote accountability and efficiency necessary for the overall good of all the peoples of Oyo state,” Adesola concluded.

Speaking at the annual conference of the authorities of local budgets, the governor reaffirmed his vision to build a modern, efficient civil service that could continue its work after his term ends in 2027.
