The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, said women across the country should present their BVN to access the cash palliative program under the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While distributing relief materials in Awka recently, the minister said that BVN is crucial in the sense that it prevents unqualified persons from receiving the cash grants.

The Speaker also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will put social security programs in place for the poor in all six geopolitical zones of the country. But only women of the poor class will be able to receive it,” Kennedy-Ohanenye added.

She told the applicants that, it is safe to provide their BVN with the fact that they will not have to worry about their bank accounts being at risk. But it is a precautionary measure to stop one from claiming more than once and to ensure that only right and eligible people get the funds.

The minister further explained: “We will not use your BVN to steal your money; it is just a way to ensure that only the right people who have not benefited before get the funds.”

The distribution of relief materials and upcoming initiatives

In the course of the event, the minister distributed 5000 bags of rice, 500 bags of fertilizer, 300 gas cylinders as donated by Mrs. Yinka Opeke of Smartgas to encourage Change in cooking stick from fossil fuels to gas.

According to Vanguard, Kennedy-Ohanenye noted that the support is targeted at the needy residents and further stated that more assistance shall be extended in the future as promised by the President, Tinubu.

In addition, the minister said that the government will soon introduce a mobile court to ensure that the poor cannot be denied their rights to obtaining government services. The court will start its work on October 15, and authorities will prosecute anyone who interferes with the distribution of relief.

Also she unveiled plans for an ‘Integrity Brigade’ that will fight against social vices and guarantee accountability.

“We are here for Nigeria and our president has promised to make the poor comfortable,” Kennedy-Ohanenye added.
