Enugu Govt Hails Residents For Rejecting Sit At Home Directive

KEY POINTS

  • Enugu residents praised for staying away from sit-at home directive by non state actors.
  •  The government has vowed to take action against schools that fail to comply with the ban of illegal sit at home order.
  •  Despite the events, the security agencies have promised residents that they remain ready to act against any troublemakers.

Helping security agencies, the people of Enugu have once again rejected the illegal sit at home order issued by “enemies of progress” says the Enugu State Government.

The government had earlier refuted the directive given by certain unknown people, as stated earlier in the last press released by the government according to The Nigerian Patriot.

State officials at a joint press conference, however, stressed the need for defiance saying the action displayed that Enugu has moved past the era of compliance with illegal directives that stifle economic growth.

The Enugu government’s determination to drive economic growth and security

Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing a highly secure environment to further open up the private sector.

Onyia, however, declared “Enugu is open for business and we shall not tolerate any non-state actors trying to derail our economy.” He further noted that the government would go after any schools, markets or institutions that don’t observe the ban of the sit at home.

Security agencies warn against disrupting peace

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Anayo Uzuegbu, backed the government’s position and described the sit — at — home orders as an ‘aberration’ while reassuring residents that the state’s security setup remains adequately prepared to guarantee peace.

According to Vanguard, He stated that no individuals or groups would be allowed to disrupt the state’s stability. Uzuegbu commended the public for their readiness and continued vigilance in sustaining the peace enjoyed across the state.
