Plateau Governor Mourns NAF Personnel, 19 Dead in Fatal Crash

Governor Mutfwang expresses condolences over tragic accident

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as well as the Government and people of Adamawa State, following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 19 people.

The crash, which occurred at Hawan Kibo in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, involved a bus traveling from Adamawa to Abuja on Monday night.

In a statement released by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang described the incident as a devastating loss, especially with the unfortunate deaths of five Nigerian Air Force personnel.

Accordingto Punch, the governor expressed deep sympathy to the families of the victims, the Chief of the Air Staff, and the people of Adamawa State.

Governor’s response to the tragedy

Governor Mutfwang said he was saddened by the situation and described it as a great tragedy for everyone involved. He asked that such mishaps never occur again and offered prayers for the surviving family members.

Notwithstanding the regrettable result, the governor praised the efforts of the rescue teams, which included the Special Task Force (STF), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and neighborhood volunteers.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the families affected by this tragic event. Although the conclusion was unfortunate, the governor praised the STF, FRSC, and local volunteers for their swift response.

Details of the accident

The accident involved an 18-seater bus traveling from Adamawa State.

Due to a reported brake failure, the bus collided with a stationary trailer undergoing repairs at a roadside checkpoint in the community. All passengers aboard the bus lost their lives in the crash.

Five of the victims were Nigerian Air Force personnel who were traveling to Abuja at the time. The loss of the personnel has sent shockwaves through the military community, with many expressing their condolences.

Preventing future tragedies

Governor Mutfwang called for continued vigilance on road safety, especially in accident-prone areas.

He emphasized the need for timely repairs of roads and vehicles to prevent future tragedies of this nature.

The governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring that efforts are made to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
