President Bola Tinubu approved life assurance dues for deceased Nigerian Army personnel’s families. This action became public at the Combined Chief of Army Staff’s Conferences in 2023. The event was in Asokoro, Abuja.
Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the Army Chief, spoke at the conference. According to a report by This Day Live, He acknowledged the quick action on the pending life assurance dues. Lagbaja thanked President Tinubu for his strong support.
The army stands by the nation’s constitution, said Gen. Lagbaja. He stressed troop welfare and their families’ well-being. “An efficient army focuses on its soldiers’ morale and welfare,” he noted.
Lagbaja talked about improving army welfare schemes. Plans include better housing and top medical care for injured personnel. Bereaved families of fallen soldiers will also receive support.
He mentioned that the conference had specific goals. It aimed to evaluate army operations and logistics. Gen. Lagbaja said the First Quarter Conference 2023 outcomes would also be discussed.
He highlighted successes against insurgents and bandits. Operations like Hadin Kai have curtailed Boko Haram in the North-east. He said Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch countered banditry in the North-West and North-Central.
He also praised Operation Udoka in the southeast. This operation helped control criminal activities there.
In his final remarks, Gen. Lagbaja encouraged the troops. He advised them to maintain their equipment properly. This would help save costs and extend equipment life. He also emphasized the need to continue fighting criminal activities. “We’re more determined than ever to challenge these criminals,” he stated.
