According to a report by The Sun, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has issued a stern ultimatum, warning of a nationwide strike commencing Wednesday if their demands for financial autonomy in state assemblies, as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution, remain unmet.
This strike threat, if realized, will severely disrupt parliamentary activities nationwide. In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, the Chairman of the Forum of Speakers, and the Department of State Security Services, PASAN conveyed their intent to strike, following an earlier 21-day strike notice.
Agugbue Ugochi Happiness, the Acting Secretary-General of PASAN, emphasized that state governors have yet to implement financial autonomy in state legislative houses, as mandated by the Constitution. Despite numerous communications on the matter, the government has not met the union’s demand for this crucial autonomy.
