Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that the state will launch two new rail lines in 2024 in partnership with Lagos State. The rail lines are part of the state’s efforts to improve its infrastructure, transportation, and economy.
The governor made the announcement at the Citizen’s Engagement on the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and 2024 Budget for Ogun East Senatorial District, held in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday.
According to Abiodun, the red rail line will connect with the Lagos rail line at Agbado terminus and run to Marina, while the blue rail line will run through Agbara to Okokomaiko-Iganmu-National Theatre in Lagos. He said the rail project will be covered in the 2024-2026 MTEF of the state.
The governor said the rail lines will ease the movement of people, goods, and services within and outside the state and create jobs and revenue for both states. He said the project is part of the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission initiative, which he and his Lagos counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, signed last year.
Abiodun also said that his administration is developing a dry port at Wasinmi, Kajola in Ifo, in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, and a logistics hub at Wasinmi in collaboration with the private sector. He said these projects will boost the state’s agro-cargo airport, which is expected to be ready by December 2023.
The governor said his vision for Ogun State is to provide focused and qualitative governance and to create an enabling environment for public-private sector partnership. He said his administration has invested in various sectors such as agriculture, education, health, security, and urban renewal.
He said he is committed to running an open-door policy and an inclusive government involving citizens in decision-making. He urged the people to support his administration’s efforts and to contribute their ideas and suggestions for the development of the state.
The Citizen’s Engagement on the 2024–2026 MTEF and 2024 Budget is a platform for the state government to consult with various stakeholders and get their input to prepare the state budget. The event was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, market women, youth groups, and other members of the public.
