President Bola Tinubu has announced the reactivation of the presidential project delivery tracker, a digital platform that allows citizens to monitor the progress and impact of federal government infrastructural projects across the country.
The president made the announcement at the end of a three-day cabinet retreat in Abuja on Friday, where he also outlined the priority objectives of his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu said the project tracker, launched in 2019 by his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, would be revamped and updated with advanced digital innovations to provide real-time oversight and feedback capabilities.
He said the platform would enable citizens to actively participate in governance and hold the government accountable for its promises and performance.
He added that the platform would also showcase the achievements and challenges of his administration in delivering quality infrastructure and services to Nigerians.
The president said he had directed his Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, to oversee the reactivation of the project tracker and ensure its functionality and accessibility.
According to the president, the project tracker would cover six key sectors: energy and natural resources, infrastructure and transportation, education and health, social investment, diversification and industrialization, and security and governance.
He said these sectors were the pillars of his Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to achieve sustainable and inclusive development for Nigeria.
The president also emphasized the importance of data-driven governance, saying that data was the lifeblood of effective policy-making and implementation.
He said his administration would be guided by evidence and facts in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the country.
He urged all members of his cabinet and other public officials to demonstrate diligence, innovative thinking, commitment, and an unrelenting focus on results.
He warned that he would not tolerate any excuses, political games, or procrastination from his team, saying that Nigerians expected tangible results and solutions from his government.
He said: “The challenge before us demands that we put aside personal ambitions and focus on adhering to the performance bond we have all signed up to on this day. These performance bonds represent a contract we must uphold.”
The president’s announcement was welcomed by many Nigerians, who expressed hope that the project tracker would enhance transparency and accountability in governance.
Some civil society groups and experts also commended the president for his initiative, which would foster public awareness and education on the government’s activities and achievements.
They also urged the president to ensure that the project tracker was regularly updated and verified by independent sources and that it was responsive to the needs and feedback of the citizens.
