The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) stepped up to support vulnerable communities in Lagos State with a substantial donation of rice. This initiative is part of a larger food intervention program reaching across Nigeria.
80,000 Bags of Rice for Lagos Residents
On Wednesday, the ADF announced the distribution of 80,000 10kg bags of rice. The official launch took place at the Lagos House in Ikeja, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, business mogul Aliko Dangote, and Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Holdings Plc, all in attendance.
The Special Adviser on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, disclosed this on his X handle on Wednesday.
According to Gawat, the foundation announced this at a ceremony held at the Lagos House in Ikeja on Wednesday.
Gawat’s caption read, “Governor of Lagos State, Mr #jidesanwoolu, the founder and Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote #AlikoDangote, and Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria Holdings Plc, Mr Femi Otedola #realFemiOtedola at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja for the rice distribution flag-Off through the Aliko Dangote Foundation #AlikoDangoteFdn.
“The foundation is distributing 80,000 10 kg bags of rice to the vulnerable communities across the state.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his appreciation for the Dangote Foundation’s contribution. This donation comes at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic hardship. The governor highlighted the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors in addressing social challenges.
Nationwide Food Program to Reach Millions
The Lagos distribution is just one facet of the ADF’s broader food intervention program. This initiative, launched earlier in Kano State, aims to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. This ambitious program underscores the Dangote Foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable populations throughout the country.
The Dangote Foundation has a long history of philanthropic work in Nigeria, addressing issues such as poverty, health, and education. Their food intervention program is a response to current economic challenges, but the foundation also invests in long-term solutions. These include initiatives focused on job creation, agricultural development, and financial empowerment.
Building a More Equitable Nigeria
Aliko Dangote, the founder and chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, has consistently emphasized the importance of giving back to society. The Dangote Foundation’s work embodies this philosophy. By providing immediate relief through food distribution and investing in long-term development projects, the ADF is working to build a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria.
The Dangote Foundation’s intervention program offers a beacon of hope for vulnerable Nigerians facing food insecurity. This initiative, along with the foundation’s broader philanthropic efforts, demonstrates the power of collaboration and corporate social responsibility in tackling complex social challenges.
