All redeployed and sacked ministers have been told by President Bola Tinubu to handover their responsibilities to their successors or permanent secretaries by October 30, 2024.

Outgoing ministers are also supposed to give over their duties to the respective permanent secretaries in ministries where successors have not been appointed.

Tinubu orders immediate process for handing over of ministry portfolios

It comes nearly six weeks after the Presidents reshuffle of the entire cabinet after redeploying 10 ministers, dismissing five, appointing seven new ministers and waiting for national assembly approval.

Asked to confirm the development, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, revealed all handover processes must be concluded by October 30.

Also, the President has approved merging the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

Moreover, the Ministry of Niger Delta Development has been retitled and upgraded to the Ministry of Regional Development bringing every development commission into the ministry including the Niger Delta Development Commission, South East Development Commission, North East Development Commission, and North West Development Commission.

According to The Punch, Transitions will be overseen by the SGF and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation so that the exercise will be smooth.

Akume also said that the directives must be followed by all ministries for compliance and copies of handover notes must be submitted to SGF for record keeping.
