Bode George from the Peoples Democratic Party revealed how the 2027 presidential ticket would definitely not go to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar due to his assessment of the party’s wrong 2023 candidate selection.

PDP’s regrets over 2023 election decision

The party members now admit to selection errors regarding Atiku as their 2023 presidential candidate, and have decided not to repeat the same mistake, therefore PDP won’t field Atiku in 2027. The decision to grant northern candidates special running exemptions was unjustified according to him because Buhari of North completed his eight-year presidency.

George argued that PDP members should have followed established zoning principles that dictate South Nigerian candidates for presidential office should replace a northern leader when his eight-year term concludes.

According to George the PDP will not consider Atiku as their candidate in the 2027 elections. George stated during the interview that Atiku would not be backed by the PDP as their candidate for 2027 since the party would oppose any northern candidate after eight northerner governing years.

The party leader stated that the party’s credibility would end when Atiku became the second PDP candidate because the party would never support such a choice, hence PDP won’t field Atiku

PDP Governors reject merger or coalition

George offered praise to the PDP Governors’ Forum because they refused to consider any merger or coalition prospects for the upcoming 2027 general election. Leaders of the PDP Governors Forum led by Bala Mohammed declared at their Ibadan meeting that they refused any political coalition attempts while opening invitations to groups who want to operate on their system to reassert their national leadership in 2027.

George supports no-coalition stance

The PDP did not need to join forces with minor political organizations according to George since he sustained the view that basing their future on their own strength was better. The party should maintain its independence without seeking fusion with another political entity according to his belief. The governors received praise from him because their actions made the PDP stronger while demonstrating faith in its future direction.
