KEY POINTS
- The APC in Kebbi State has announced the suspension of Koko and nine other officials.
- They face accusations of working against the party, proving unloyal, and mistreating party leaders.
- Koko’s aim to become a senator could be behind the party’s decision to suspend him.
APC in Kebbi State says it is suspending Muhammad Shehu Koko, who represented Koko/Maiyama at the House of Representatives, along with nine officials from Koko LGA.
The party reportedly suspended them because of anti-party conduct, disloyalty, and harassment of executive members,’ according to a letter provided.
The letter, signed together by Muhammad Maibarga, Sirajo Usman Koko, and 14 other APC members, describes the growing internal divisions in the local party authority.
List of suspended party officials
In addition to the lawmaker, the following were also suspended: The APC vice chairman of Koko LGA, Muhammad Danyado, is also on the list, Biyaminu Muhammad, Secretary Talatu Zauro, Women Leader. There was no mention of the names of the youth leader, financial secretary, and welfare secretary.
Unconfirmed political motives
No official statement has explained the reasons, but those close to Koko think politics could be the reason for the suspension. Rumors that Koko wants to run for senator in the next election have led some powerful APC members in the state to take action against him.
Observers in Kebbi state suggest that the actions are more about party politics than misconduct, according to one source. Still, people close to the former representative refused to discuss the issue publicly, saying they could not comment.
Party discipline and growing friction as result of anti-party conduct
The suspension is one more in a series of conflicts happening inside the APC, which is having a hard time maintaining unity before the 2027 elections.
Experts say that such suspensions are a sign of bigger problems with factionalism and power struggles within the ruling party. Political activity and jostling for position have risen in Kebbi State, as well as in other areas, especially among aspirants hoping to climb the ladder.
So far, there has been no comment on this from the APC’s national leadership. It is not yet certain if the suspended people will contest the decision or receive extra disciplinary actions.
