Nigeria’s tourism sector is advancing towards a more unified strategy as the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria and the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority delineate strategies to enhance collaboration. Both parties assert that their revitalized cooperation seeks to enhance the nation’s image in worldwide markets and to fortify the frameworks that assist local entrepreneurs.
Joint tourism marketing strategy
A key component of the agreement is a proposed Memorandum of Understanding on collaborative marketing efforts. NTDA plans to execute the document with FTAN following a comprehensive evaluation, establishing a framework for the promotion of Nigeria through international channels. Authorities indicate that the Memorandum of Understanding will be formalized at the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition later this year.
The pledges ensued from a meeting in Abuja, where FTAN’s president, Aliyu Badaki, led a delegation to NTDA’s headquarters to confer with its newly appointed director general, Olayiwola Awakan. Badaki stated that the visit aimed to strengthen ongoing collaboration and advance mutual priorities that might enhance tourism’s role as a significant contributor to the economy. He commended NTDA for maintaining its partnership with FTAN across various administrations and expressed his anticipation that the new leadership will facilitate further progress for both parties.
Badaki also informed Awakan on the preparations for the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition set for November 28, 2025. He observed that the DG has been invited as a Special Guest of Honour and stated that the meeting aims to attract investors capable of supporting the sector’s growth.
Advancing the joint tourism marketing effort
According to The Guardian, Susan Akporiaye, the inaugural deputy president of FTAN, stated that the federation is dedicated to promoting Nigeria’s tourist brand in international travel markets. She emphasized that advancement relies on enhanced coordination between FTAN and NTDA, especially in showcasing Nigeria’s attractions to global purchasers. She emphasized the importance of consistent participation in global shows and proposed the establishment of a joint committee to strategize and monitor the execution of agreed-upon marketing initiatives.
Awakan received the delegation and stated that he has collaborated with the federation for several years in various roles. He stated that his administration will maintain tight collaboration with the business sector while pursuing initiatives aligned with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stated that the agency will concentrate on collaborations that enhance the prominence of Nigerian locations and assist tourism operators that have faced challenges in achieving broader awareness.
